wythe hotel

Dearest Brooklyn,

You’ve been calling my name for soo long now. And since many of my favorite creatives call you home + favorite shoppes line your streets, I know you must be pretty special.

So when I read that you’d gone and outdone yourself with the debut of Wythe Hotel, Williamsburg’s latest, it pretty much sealed the deal – I’m coming to visit!

Wythe Hotel started with the discovery of an old factory on the Brooklyn waterfront. Built in 1901 as a cooperage, we have preserved, renovated, and turned our historically industrial building into a place where people feel welcome.

Who’s coming with me?

best made

I’m a little obsessed with maps and topography in general. Sometimes I get shamelessly lost staring at maps; friends can attest.

So, pairing this love of maps with fantastic typography and a knockout statement pretty much seals the deal. Best Made makes me want to frame all of their featured cities, cheerfully proclaiming Everything Here is Wonderful.

Shoppe the entire map collection.

herb lester

My travel bug is at an all time high, especially with my big (eek) birthday trip just around the corner!

In preparation for our bon voyage, I’ve been collecting every indie travel guide under the sun, including these fabulous pocket city guides by Herb Lester.

I love their tagline too - A Guide to the Usual and Unusal

Aside from these illustrated beauties, below are a few of my favorite go-to travel companions:

And last but not least, many of Jane’s lovely finds. It goes without saying, Jane would be an ideal blogger travel buddy!

front studio architects

Front Studio Architects re-imagined the cafe interiors at McNally Jackson Cafe, and it looks like the perfect spot to perch following a trip to McNally Jackson, one of NYC’s largest independent booksellers.

It makes me so very happy to see independent bookstores alive and well, not to mention thoughtfully designed for their patrons - evoking all things literature. And, can we talk about those light fixtures? Love.

praia piquinia

At the very top of my wish list is a subscription to Christian Chaize’s collector’s series of Praia Piquinia prints.

It began in 2005 on his annual (and swoon-worthy) pilgrimage to the seaside of Portugal. Since then, Christian has returned each and every year to photograph the same locale, capturing its crystal waters and colorful beachgoers. To me, it’s the perfect landscape study.

You know how some say you’re either a beach-going or mountain-treking person through and through? Well, I’m definitely the former, no matter how hard I try to love those majestic alps. The seaside gets me every. single. time.

My tote is beach bound every chance it gets. How about you?

amelie & friends

Amelie & Friends is a new fav, branded to a t by I Love Dust. Such cleverly designed goodies!

This darling little eatery is a must-see on my UK travel list, boasting two Michelin star chefs and charming interiors. What more can you ask for?

public

Clicking my ruby slippers together and hoping I awake at PUBLIC Chicago, Ian Schrager‘s latest design darling. Who wouldn’t want to hibernate here for the winter?

Ian has created a gem so lovely, it continues to receive oodles and oodles of noteworthy press since debuting last October.

Travel+Leisure boasts, “It is possible Ian Schrager has done more to bring design to the travel experience than any other living person – single-handedly reinventing the hotel as a site of electrifying cultural significance.”

PUBLIC, leave the light on pretty please; I’ll be there in 3 clicks.

a friend of mine

Melbourne-based A Friend of Mine, the creative behind the design and art direction of The Good Life cookbook, has a fantastic portfolio full of so many gems.

UnpackagedUnpackaged is an eco-focused grocers and dry-goods store in Clerkenwell, London. Customers are encouraged to bring their own containers and fill up on dry goods and groceries in an effort to reduce the impact of packaging and waste.

MilkbarA bespoke typographic identity was created based on the pouring of steamed milk into espresso. Hints to the Australian roots added in signage and interior elements such as sign painted door graphics emulating colourful rubber fly curtains found in suburban Australian milkbars.

Micro KitchenA Friend Of Mine collaborated with Broadsheet to bring Melbourne’s best chefs and designers together for a pop-up event, Micro Kitchen. The idea of a designer and chef ‘spooning’ lent a tongue-in-cheek approach to the identity. Fitting with the temporary ‘pop-up’ atmosphere, the window signage was all hand-painted, and logos illustrated in chalk to maximise impact within a lean budget.

The Modern Flower CompanyThe Modern Flower Company is a small chain of high end London based florists. The identity employs a modernist aesthetic with a strong grid and clean typographic approach but adds an organic element with the typographic marque acting as a vine growing up the trellis-like grid.
