birch

Who doesn’t love Birch? It’s become one of my favorite shoppes in SF.

Birch is so much more than a flower studio. From custom arrangements and gifts, to covetable domestic and international publications, Birch is another Hayes Valley must.

the wedding collection

The new wedding collection by 31 Bits is here and, in a word (or two), it’s picture perfect.

Quite possibly the most beautiful shoot I’ve come across in a long time, captured in true Trever Hoehne form, and styled impeccably by the fabulous Summer Watkins.

As luck would have it, I had the privilege of visiting the 31 Bits compound last summer, during my first trip to Uganda. The young women behind this company are total go-getters, and have grown both their brand and business so well.

Cheers to a beautiful new collection 31 Bits beauties!

Crushing and absolutely smitten with everything from the vamoose!

operation i do

It’s no surprise James Moes is one of my favorite photographers. His images from Dave and Heather’s Vancouver Island surprise wedding are wonderful. Even sweeter, is the story behind this covert Operation I Do

A surprise wedding,
with only immediate family and a few friends,
on a beach in Tofino BC,
to happen mere minutes after a surprise,
but perhaps suspected,
proposal.

This is Dave’s idea of romance.
Pure madness.
Pure goodness.
Pure love.

Dave, a member of the Canadian Air Force,
came prepared.
We had satellite maps of the beaches.
We had a seven page spreadsheet
- complete with the VII Phases of Operation -
because there was an operation at hand.
And at 1500 hours, I would be ready.

The best part of the document was the Worst Case Scenario(s):
1. Someone dies: Deal with that and all bets are off.
2. Heather says no: We have a small but slightly awkward party – pass the cheezies…?
3. Heather freaks out – (in the bad way not the expected ‘OMG this is really happening’ sorta way): See above (number two)
Et. Cetera.

But it all worked out,
In the most surreal, wonderful way.

Heather may have freaked out.
But in the best way.

Heather was living in Chicago.
Dave was living in Moose Jaw.
Canadians will know that is in Saskatchewan.
Americans, you may now look up Saskatchewan.

They are now together in Saskatchewan.

Heather saw my work previously online and mentioned to Dave that I was to be their wedding photographer in the unknown future. It was priceless to see Heather’s reaction when she noticed me documenting the unfolding, the realizing, the becoming, wed.

wedding bells

‘Tis the season for wedding bells!

With wedding weekend festivities on many a summer calendar, I love the excuse it brings to do a little gift giving. I particularly adore the alternative to classic registry purchases, assuming you know the couple’s taste to a T!

Here are some favorites for the soon-to-be wedded darlings…

More shower and wedding gift ideas herehere, and here too!
