Does this sound like you? You love the look of designer and hotel beds, but aren’t sure how to get the look at home. We’re right there with you! Thankfully, we reached out to one of our designers to get their tips on how to properly make a bed so it looks just like those beautiful beds you see on Instagram and in our projects. For this guide, we’ll be focusing on how to make a king-sized bed.
How To Make A King-Sized Bed
Step 1: First, put on your sheets and tuck them into the bed frame. We love a classic white cotton or linen sheet for that designer-approved look.
Step 2: Add your duvet cover so your sheets and duvet are at the same length on your bed. Tri-fold your duvet cover so it covers 1/3 of the bed from the end of your bed frame. This creates a nice and fluffy look!
Step 3: Fold your sheets over once and tuck into each side. This process can take a few times around the bed to get the perfect look!
Step 4: Finally, add texture and color with pillows and throw blankets. Depending on your shams, your pillow combination may change. Keep reading for the exact pillows you’ll need to create our two favorite looks!
Making A Bed With Euro Shams
You’ll need:
• Three Euro Shams
• Two 22″x22″ Throw Pillows
• One Lumbar Pillow, preferably 12″x24″ or larger
With this pillow layout, you want to rest your sleeping pillows behind all of the shams. When laying your Euro shams, they’ll be upright, covering the pillows in the back. These shams serve a purpose as solid throw pillows. After placing them upright on the bed, add two 22″x22″ throw pillows in front. They should be centered on the bed, creating about 6″ of space between each other. Lastly, top off your pillow combination with a long lumbar, usually 12″x24″ or greater.
Making A Bed With King Shams
You’ll need:
• Two King Shams
• Two 24″x24″ Throw Pillows
• One 20″x20″ Throw Pillow
• One 12×36″ Lumbar Pillow
With this king-sized bed layout, you’ll start by laying your king shams on top of the sleeping pillows. Then, layer the pillows with the two 24″ throw pillows in the back, about 2″ away from each other. Next, add your 20″ pillow centered in front of the two larger pillows, and finally, add your lumbar pillow in front.
