A Perfect Pair: Sofas and Coffee Tables

Design
April 7, 2021

We’re back with another rendition of our Perfect Pair series! If you missed our nightstand and sconce combinations or desk and chair pairings, visit those posts for more designer-approved furniture combos. Today on the mgd log, we’re covering sofa and coffee table combinations that are equal parts functional and wow-worthy.

When looking for a sofa and coffee table that will complement each other well, you want to take into consideration a few things. First, think about the relative size of your sofa and coffee table, as well as the general size of your space. Your coffee table shouldn’t be taller or wider than your sofa – You don’t want anything to overpower it! You’ll want enough space on each end of your coffee table to create a comfortable, walkable, and useful living space. In terms of height, your coffee table should be about 1-2 inches lower than your sofa. However, in some spaces, we’ll occasionally go for a slightly lower coffee table depending on the size of the sofa, the seat height, and our clients’ style.

The next thing to keep in mind is, of course, style! In our projects, we typically opt for a comfortable and casual style that still feels refined. Your coffee table should coordinate with your sofa but not match, and the general design styles should feel aligned.

We pulled a few of our favorite pairings of the moment – Keep scrolling to see our picks!
