When you think of your dream kitchen, chances are it has a kitchen island! We love incorporating built in and standalone islands in our clients’ projects. They’re a great way to create more usable counter space and storage, and are perfect for entertaining. We’ve rounded up a few of our favorite kitchen islands from past projects below. We’re excited to share them with you!
So, pull up a barstool and keep scrolling for the ultimate kitchen island inspiration roundup.
Lake Arrowhead, California
For our #mgdxlakearrowhead kitchen, we wanted to maximize the small footprint with a freestanding island. Hanging woven pendants accentuated the high ceilings, and added just the right amount of visual interest. We brought in a white quartz countertop to contrast the grey/green cabinets and black countertops of the main cabinetry. Finally, we added these amazing pull-up leather stools. This one will always be a favorite!
Newport Beach, California
With the all-white kitchen at our #mgdxpeninsulapoint, we knew we wanted to bring in some warmth with the kitchen peninsula. Wooden pendant lights and leather strap barstools were just what the doctor ordered! Lastly, we also made sure the client had added storage underneath with usable cabinet space.

Corona Del Mar, California
Our #mgdxmarigold kitchen is always a favorite, and it’s easy to see why! We brought in upholstered barstools to pair with the white shiplap paneling and Calacatta gold marble countertops of the kitchen island. Finally, the pair of pendants that hang above the island cast the most subtle, dreamy light thanks to the antiqued mirrored finish on the glass itself.

Bainbridge Island, Washington
For our #mgdxbainbridge project on the Puget Sound, we wanted the island and cabinetry to reflect the beautiful Pacific Northwest hues that they loved so much. Brass flush mount lights, backless counter stools, and key kitchen accessories were all this statement island needed to feel complete!

Newport Beach, California
The kitchen was the first space we designed in our #mgdxspanishcanyon project. Our client had spent years cooking in other kitchens, so she knew exactly what she wanted in needed in her “dream kitchen.” An oversized island accented with large antique brass pendants is the perfect space for cooking and entertaining. Finally, we finished the kitchen island design with classic Parisian-inspired counter stools in a lovely shade of grey.
