Welcome to part 2 of our #mgdxwindward reveal! Last week we shared the entry, mudroom, and main bedroom & bathroom suite. Today we’ll be sharing the swoon-worthy modern kitchen, family room, dining room, and so much more. There’s too much goodness to get to, so go ahead and get scrolling!
Kitchen
First up, let’s get into this kitchen – What most consider to be the heart of any home! One of our favorite things about this home is how inviting it is. Every room is one you just want to hang out in, and this modern kitchen is no exception! The first thing we did in designing this space was to anchor everything around the idea of a custom metal hood, a coffered ceiling, and a brick backsplash. We wanted the space to be timeless in design and practical in functionality for their family.
Off the main kitchen is a large walk-in butler’s pantry to keep food and small appliances tucked away in style. We brought in the same grey/green hue as the mudroom to tie the spaces together, and pattern cut door fronts to add a fun textural moment. Then, we added a sleek charcoal tile backsplash that contrasts the white marble countertops.
The adjacent breakfast nook is equal parts cozy and modern. During the architectural planning process with Brandon Architects, our clients realized they really wanted a casual spot for their family to have meals and hang out. We can just imagine the large family breakfasts on the weekends here! Woven wood Roman shades add warmth, while a black pendant and dining chairs anchor the space.
Family Room
Next, let’s head into the family room! To help distinguish the spaces in this open-concept home, we added white oak beams to the family room. A cozy custom sectional is filled with layers of printed pillows, and a jute rug warms up the space. Built-in shelving on either side of the fireplace and TV are filled with decorative trinkets and layers of books and plants that add a collected feel to the room. Lastly, woven rattan and black modern details tie the room together with the adjacent kitchen and dining spaces!
Dining Room
The Windward dining room is an entertainer’s dream! It houses a long table that just begs for family-style dinners and a bar space with built-in wine storage and lots of open shelving. Our clients love pattern and fun pops of color, so we brought in a custom commissioned art piece by Jennifer Daily Art to add something extra special to this space.
Mismatched white woven pendant lights hang above a dark wood dining table. The look is completed with leather dining chairs and woven accent chairs. We’d have a tough time ever getting up from this dinner table!
Powder Bath
Up next is this pretty powder bath space. You know we love a statement wallpaper, and this moment is one of our favorites in the project! We kept the space grounded with small pops of black and an oversized wood vanity with a concrete countertop. We love using unique materials in each space, and this room is no exception.
Laundry Room
Last, but certainly not least, let’s head into the #mgdxwindward laundry room! With four kids at home, our clients wanted lots of storage and a laundry room that makes washing and folding feel like less of a chore. We think this bright and inviting space manages that quite well! A fun patterned floor pops against the neutral cabinetry and we brought back in the white brick from the kitchen and home exterior. It’s a high-performance space with lots of pretty details throughout. We don’t know about you, but we wouldn’t mind spending all day in here!
That concludes part 2 of our Windward reveal, but don’t fret. There’s so much more to come from this beautiful family home! Stay tuned for our next “get the look” post where we’ll share all of the sources from these lovely common spaces. Then, later this week, we’ll share part 3 and take you through the fun kiddos’ spaces! If you missed part 1, head there now to get caught up as we continue on in our series.
